Mike McFarlane has challenged his Abu Dhabi Harlequins players to build on their impressive start to the campaign and record a fourth straight win against Hurricanes.
Quins trailed for an hour last week against Jebel Ali Dragons before turning up the heat in the second half to win 36-22.
“We’re into a groove now, we’re still a game behind some teams but we’re second. We’ve got a good run of games now with limited travel so it’s time to dig in,” said McFarlane. Lightening quick back Max Trimble returns after illness, as should prop James McAuley, while centre Pieter Morton is pushing for a start after a first 20 minutes in a Quins shirt last week. Lock Andy Shields is also primed to make his debut.
Canes captain Daniel Perry says his team were buoyed by their triumph two weeks ago against Bahrain.
“Quins are a class act but we’re going out to prove we aren’t here to make up the numbers and winning at such a difficult place will prove that.”
Andrew Rouvi, meanwhile, is still haunted by the fact Al Ain Amblers were forced to forfeit their last game against Quins, but says a first win in the 15-a-side format in Muscat would do wonders for their season. His squad remains ravaged and he is indebted to a string of club veterans who have come to his rescue and decided to don their boots once again in the Garden City side’s hour of need.
“We’re just happy to have a team to go to Muscat and a win there will give us so much confidence,” said the Amblers head coach.
Muscat vice captain Karl Rasmussen says his side are looking forward to the visit of Amblers and the possibility of a maiden win.
“We are still struggling with injuries but are hoping to have a full bench and we are certainly looking forward to this week,” said Rasmussen.
