Tries from Cam Roberts, Brian Geraghty, Patrick Jenkinson and Conan Osborne earned the men from the capital another piece of silverware at the Dubai Rugby Sevens.

In what was a bruising opening period Dragons led 7-5. However, Quins came quickest out of the blocks in the second half, scoring two unanswered tries.

With a minute remaining, Dragons hit back with a superb try through Dan Bell, but Quins closed out the contest as star man Jenkinson paved the way to send Osborne in from close range.

Coach Mike McFarlane said he was delighted with the result.

“These boys are so close. It’s such a coachable group of lads and they buy into what we want to achieve and they work so hard. You could see it in their fitness,” he said.

Cameron Roberts goes in for a score in the final against Dragons

“It came down to the depth of the squad. You have 12 quality players instead of seven and that makes a massive difference. The subs we brought on weren’t any weaker and slotted straight in to the system. All 12 were outstanding.”

“We scored with six lads before half-time. We trust our systems and structures and never doubted ourselves.”
