Mohammed Al Hammadi vowed to give the medals he has won at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships to deceased UAE team-mate Abdullah Hayayei’s children.

Al Hammadi’s blistering form in London continued late on Friday night as he added a fourth medal to his haul with silver in the 200m T34 final, which followed on from 800m silver on Thursday.

Tunisian Ktila Walid took home gold in the event while Australian Rheed McCracken placed third.

It was Al Hammadi’s third silver to go with his second-place finishes in the 400m and 800m, and bronze in the 100m.

“Abdullah has five children. All the UAE team made this promise to bring medals to them,” said Al Hammadi, a multiple-time Paralympic medallist.

Hayayei died in a training incident at the Newham Leisure Centre (an official World Championships training venue) days before the championships started. The throwing cage fell on him and he died at the scene. The incident is currently under investigation.
