IGNITE PINK IS PUNK SWIM RUN 2016

The Ignite Pink is Punk campaign has returned once more to continue fundraising in support of breast cancer awareness.

The duathlon event managed to amass Dhs42,580 in fundraising in its previous edition, which saw entrants compete individually or in teams of two.

Registered “open” participants are required to partake in a 600m swim before running on sand and pavement for an additional 3km, while “sprint” athletes see through 400m and 1.6km respectively. Contestants who don’t fancy a dip can otherwise opt for the “fun run” and instead just take on the 3km.

SPINNEYS DUBAI 92 CYCLE CHALLENGE – BUILD-UP RIDE 2

The sixth edition of the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge saw 1,850 cyclists from across the world hit the streets.

While eager cyclists await the December race, there is still ample time for proper preparation in the form of four build-up races that increase in distance.

There are also categories for younger riders in a bid to raise awareness and promote overall health and fitness in the UAE.

Contestants looking to try their luck in the upcoming Cycle Challenge will need to better Jacob Tipper’s 2.13.32 and Aimee Wright’s triumphant pedal in the male and female categories.

NYUAD ITRI 2016/17 – RACE 1

Hosted with athletes of all fitness levels in mind waves of eight individuals will swim for 10 minutes in NYUAD’s 50m-long pool and then cycle for 30 minutes on spike bikes. Participants will then conclude by running for 15 minutes on the rubber indoor track.

Waves will leave 20 minutes after each other and refreshments will be available at the Performance Gymnasium.

STRATA COMMUNITY CYCLE RACE

The STRATA Community Cycle Race returns to Al Ain once again. Presented by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the event will involve three categories: intermediate, open and elite.

Participants in the intermediate bracket are required to cycle a 25km looped course that will commence and conclude at the Wadi Adventure Park. Open bracket cyclists will instead have to endure the same endeavour but culminate their 42km effort at the top of Jebel Hafeet.

Seasoned cyclists and athletes looking to challenge themselves can opt for 67km where they must complete the 25km loop twice before pedalling upwards toward the mountain apex.

EMIRATES ISLAMIC NATIONAL SCHOOL LEAGUE FOOTBALL 2016-17

Under 14 and Under 16 boys will compete against opposition schools in their own emirate each Saturday from October 8th till November 26th, with the finals taking place from January 21st to February 4th.

It is an 8-a-side competition for boys.

The league will feature over 100 teams from 60 schools in three age divisions.

HILTON DUBAI TOWER RACE 2016

The Hilton Dubai Tower Race returns, challenging 120 participants to see if they are fit enough to run up 36 floors (that’s 730 stairs) as fast as humanly possible.

Last year’s collected cash was delivered to war-torn Syria via the Emirates’ Red Crescent. The fifth edition is raising funds for the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre to aid disabled children.

WADI ADVENTURE SUPER SPRINT TRIATHLON

Al Ain’s Wadi Adventure welcomes the iconic Super Sprint Triathlon.

This season-first triathlon event is arguably the perfect start for out-of-shape triathletes to slowly, but surely return to peak form. The course will ask participants to get the ball rolling by first swimming 375m in the large lake before biking for 12km and eventually finishing with 2.5km run towards the finish line.

Once the race comes to a close, participants can reap the fruits of their labour by delighting in refreshments and breakfast as well as complimentary entry into the idyllic water park.

CITY SWIM SERIES – SWIM 1

Originating with canal swims in Amsterdam and New York’s Hudson River, the City Swim series arrives on the UAE’s picturesque shorelines.

The inaugural race will be held at the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort in Dubai before shifting across the emirates in a four-stage series. More locations are expected to be added to the calendar in coming months.

More than 200 swimmers have already confirmed their presence with four distances available to five age-appropriate categories. Finishers will be awarded medals for their effort.

AL WATHBA CYCLE RACE SERIES – RACE 2

The Al-Wathba Cycling Series offers casual and hardcore riders the prospect of testing their mettle at one of the UAE’s cycling hotspots.

The four-race series strictly adheres to the rules of Australian Pursuit cycling, where individuals are put into groups. Each group is released 20 seconds after the other, with the objective being to close the gap between groups.

Once all four races come to a close, the participant with the best accumulated tally will earn prizes, including a more-than-befitting cash pool for their tiring endeavours.
