U.S. coach Jess Markt has helped set up Palestine’s first female wheelchair basketball team, having previously trained other coaches and referees on his last trip to Gaza.

Markt, 40, has also coached wheelchair teams in Afghanistan, India and Cambodia.

“I think for Gaza this is a very unique thing,” Markt said. “I think there are not so many opportunities for women to play sports here, and particularly for disabled women.”
