Three-time world champion Nick Matthew will make the final appearances of his career at the ATCO PSA Dubai World Series Finals, after a hamstring injury forced world number three Marwan ElShorbagy out of the event.

Defeat to German qualifier Raphael Kandra at this month’s Allam British Open initially saw Matthew miss out the finals having finished ninth in the PSA World Series Standings. The loss looked set to be Matthew’s last ever match on the PSA World Tour as the 37-year-old officially retired from the sport.

Matthew replaces world number three ElShorbagy in Group A of the men’s tournament, which contains world number one Mohamed ElShorbagy, British Open champion Miguel Angel Rodriguez, and world number four Tarek Momen. The British veteran Matthew will get his tournament underway against Momen on the first day of the tournament.

Egyptian Momen switches places with three-time winner Gregory Gaultier, who moves into Group B alongside world number two Ali Farag, Tournament of Champions winner Simon Rosner and former world number one Karim Abdel Gawad.

Players are set to compete in a unique best-of-three group stage format with the top two players from each group qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.

The group stages begin on June 5 with the semi-finals due to take place on June 8, and then the men’s and women’s finals played on June 9. For further information on both the PSA World Series and the PSA World Tour visit worldseriesfinals.com. Tickets are available at platinumlist.net.
