The Summer Olympics are barely in the rear-view mirror, but it’s not too early to start thinking about the fantastic badminton that will be on display in Dubai at the end of the year.

The Dubai World Superseries Finals, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, will be held in the Emirates from December 14-18.

You can reserve your spot to watch the top competitors at Hamdan Sports Complex with tickets for the event now on sale.

The chance to watch Olympic medallists hit the court costs a modest Dh25 per day or Dh100 for the entire five days. If you’re a badminton fan or someone who just appreciates top-notch sporting competition, the tickets represent tremendous value.

Only the top eight ranked players in the world for both the men and the women in singles, doubles and mixed doubles will be in Dubai following the 12 Metlife Superseries events taking place throughout the year. Five of the 12 events remain with places still up for grabs.

Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, who has moved up to fourth in the men’s singles rankings following his win in June’s Australian Open, will be one of the players vying for the Dubai crown after he finished as runner-up in 2014 finale.

Value for money: Tickets for the tournament cost Dh25 per day.

“Since making the Men’s Singles final in Dubai in 2014, it has been a big goal of mine to qualify for Dubai again. The tournament is fantastic and I definitely want to experience that again,” Vittinghus said.

“I think if I continue playing well and take my chances, I can do it. This victory (in Australia) is a big help and I hope to do well in the second half of the Superseries season also.”

On the women’s side, Indian sensation Saina Nehwal is still hopeful of making her way to the UAE despite suffering an injury that may hinder her chances.

“Of course I want to qualify again. I really like that place and the event,” Nehwal said.

“So many Indians come to support me so I hope I can go there and win it. I hope I can finally make my fans in Dubai happy.”
