Subramanian, who has travelled from India specifically to take part in the tournament, defeated Mohammed Muanis 21-13, 21-13 in two straight games to move into the quarter finals.

It was a long day for Subramanian, who had earlier defeated Ankur Dhamija and David Forbes in contrasting style.

Subramanian did not need to exert himself in a 21-5, 21-6 win over Dhamija, but against Forbes, he had to use all his experience and skills to win 23-21, 13-21, 21-8.

In a couple of other men’s singles matches, Sachin Seth beat Sajid Menon 21-18, 21-6, while Ali Dashtani was a comfortable winner over Renoy Sony 21-9, 21-14.

In the two quarter-final matches of Master’s singles, Abhishek Waqas Ahmed beat Chacko Navin 21-5, 21-6 to book his place in the semi-finals, while Reji Thomas needed to sweat it out more by taking three games to beat Francis David Colquhoun 21-18, 17-21, 21-15.

One of the oldest running sporting events in the country, the India Club UAE Open has attacted nearly 700 participants this year competing in 28 different categories.
