The youths put on strong performances but DESS did enough to top the 10-team competition. Triumphing in 19 of the 52 races, they accumulated 458 points ahead of runner-up JESS Jumeirah who finished with 405. JESS Arabian Ranches completed the podium with a tally of 360 points.

Hugh McCann, 10, who won the 4x50m freestyle relay for DESS, was delighted with the competition. “It was very exciting to get into the pool and do well as there were some tough swimmers,” he said.

“Overall it was a lot of fun and it was great competing against the strong swimmers.”

Despite finishing third, Jade Blake of JESS Arabian Ranches, went home with some good memories. “Although we didn’t finish first, it’s been a huge success and it feels great to have taken part,” said the 11-year-old. “I’m just so proud of my team-mates as we all worked hard throughout the year and to finish third is amazing.”
