UAE sailors continue their battle at Asian Games

Mohammad Abdul Al Hammadi finished eighth after four races in the Optimist men’s dinghy class in sailing yesterday as UAE’s wait to win a medal at the Asian Games continued.

Mohammad’s team-mate Hamad Ebrahim Al Hammadi was placed 11th out of 12 in the Laser men’s dinghy class, while after three races Asian Games debutant Salama Adnan Al Mansouri finished eighth in the women’s Optimist dinghy class.

The sailors will continue the 12-round race competition until October 1.

Meanwhile in swimming, Mubarak Mohammad failed to advance from his 100m breas­troke heat, sealing an eighth place finish.

Mohammad clocked 1:05.81 with Japan’s Naoya Tomita winning the heat with a time of 1:02.20.

Today, Juma Al Maktoum, run­ner-up at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, will be hoping to go one better when he takes part in the men’s double trap event. Saif Al Shamsi and Kha­led Al Kaabi will also be eyeing medals in the same event.
