UAE’s Hamad Al Hammadi did not get the start he would have hoped in the one person dinghy Byte CII sailing event at the Youth Olympic Games yesterday.
The 16-year-old placed 27th in Race 1 at the Jinniu Lake in Nanjing, China, but managed to show some improvement by finishing 21st in Race 2.
Race 3 was postponed to today due to bad weather.
Pedro Luis Marcondez Correa of Brazil and Asri Azman of Malaysia won a race each, with the Brazilian leading the standings courtesy of his fourth place in race two.
Angello Giuria of Peru sits in third place after two consistent races.
The sailing event consists of 10 races through Friday before the final race takes place on Saturday August 23.
Sharjah Ladies Club shooter Yasmin Tahlak will also be in action today as she returns to the Fangshan Shooting Hall, the same venue she competed in when she booked her qualification spot last year, placing 10th at the Asian Youth Games in Nanjing.
Tahlak will be flaunting her skills in the 10m air rifle event, hoping to finish in the top eight in qualification to secure a place in the final, scheduled to be held later in the day.
Tomorrow, swimmer Ali Al Kaabi will participate in the 50m butterfly heats, while Fatma Al Hosani begins her discus throw campaign in the qualification stages at the Nanjing OSC Stadium.
