Three UAE-based swimmers will be heading to the British Age Group Championships next week, ready to fight it out at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield from July 30 to August 3.

Cameron Matthews, 13, Jakub Karl, 14 and Sean McNicholl, 12, will be representing Dubai club Hamilton Aquatics at the prestigious swimming meet, which will feature around 2000 swimmers.

Last year, Hamilton Aquatics placed were third on the overall medals table behind City of Leeds and Plymouth Leander thanks to great results from Matthews who won three gold and Karl who won four.

“The British Age Group Championships are one of the most competitive age group competitions in the world. Every year Hamilton Aquatics take swimmers and year on year, we aim to build on our success,” said head coach Ash Morris.

“Last year, we came third in the overall medal table beating massive city teams such as Birmingham, Manchester, Swansea, Hatfield and Sheffield.”

This year Hamilton Aquatics had 32 swimmers qualified for the British Age, Youth and Senior Championships combined.

“Due to other national competitions, mixed nationalities and summer timing, we will be taking three swimmers to the Age Group Championships and three swimmers to Youth. Earlier in the year we took eight swimmers to Senior, which was the Commonwealth Trials,” explained Morris.

“Cameron Matthews, Jakub Karl and Sean McNicholl all go into the competition ranked first for some events each.”
