Serbia crushed neighbours Montenegro in a marquee Group A clash on day two of the Water Polo World League Super Final at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

What was the most highly-anticipated match of the day between defending champions Serbia and last year’s bronze medallists, Montenegro, ended up being a one-sided affair as the former delivered a 14-5 drubbing to the latter.

Montenegro were overpowered by the Serbs who held their opponents scoreless the entire first half and led 10-1 going into the final period.

Youngster Dusan Mandic was the standout Serbian performer, netting five of his team's goals.

Serbia coach Dejan Savic said: “Nobody expected this result. The key for us today was defence. Montenegro just had no solution to our defence and that was the problem for them.”

The Serbs lie top of Group A with two wins from two matches having beaten the Chinese on day one.

Earlier in the day, Brazil got off to a flying start to beat China, who rallied in the second half but eventually succumbed 9-12 to the South Americans.

Reigning world champions Hungary breezed past Canada 10-3 to post their second win of the week, following their victory over Australia on day one.

The last match of the day saw Australia beat USA 8-4.

The action continues today with Hungary taking on the USA, Serbia facing Brazil, Australia playing Canada and China up against Montenegro.
