Despite establishing a commanding advantage in the Volvo Ocean Race, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing are keen to right the wrong of Auckland in today’s in-port race in Itajai, Brazil.

Ian Walker’s crew have a proud record of a podium finish in every single leg and in-port race so far – tarnished only by finishing last in the New Zealand in-port race.

Even though ADOR widened the gap at the top of the overall standings to seven points by winning leg five from Auckland to Itajai, coupled with Dongfeng Race Team’s retirement due to a broken mast, Walker said his team will be going all out for victory.

“There is still a long way to go in this race and the in-port score could be an important factor. Rest assured we will be giving it everything we have for a good result,” he said.

The in-port race also sees UAE Olympic sailor Adil Khalid return to the ADOR crew after being sidelined for two legs by illness.

“I’m a lot stronger. I’ve got a lot better in the last few weeks,” said the 26-year-old trimmer and helmsman. “I’m in good shape and good health and ready for the next leg and looking forward to joining the team.”

Another man who will surely boost the ADOR line-up for today’s race will be Brazilian double World Cup-winning footballer Cafu.

With 142 games for the Selecao, the 44-year-old is his country’s most capped player and the only man to appear in three World Cup finals.

“I am looking forward immensely to meeting Ian and the rest of the crew,” said the former AC Milan and Roma right-back. “It’s great to be joining a winning team and I’m looking forward to seeing them in action.”

Azzam also lead the in-port race series but are tied on 14 points with Team Brunel. The race starts at 14:00 local time (21:00 UAE) and can be followed live at volvooceanrace.com/live.
