On The Radar, December 14-20: Volvo Ocean Race in Abu Dhabi, Nike run in Dubai

On the radar is back with your definitive guide to sport in the region this week and its another big week for sport in the UAE. There is the Volvo Ocean Race arrival celebrations and the Nike We Run 5 or 10 km – so there is no excuse not to be involved in sport this week!

Sunday 14 December – onwards
Volvo Ocean Race – Boats arriving and village opening

 

 

 

Venue: Destination Village, Corniche Breakwater
The first boats have arrived and are scheduled to stay for almost a month – party time! This year, the UAE can join at Destination Village on the Corniche Breakwater to welcome the teams to shore and participate in a plethora of diverse activities celebrating Emirati and sailing culture.

Pakistan V New Zealand cricket: Fourth ODI

BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals

Venue: Hamdan Sports Complex 
Start:

The world’s best badminton players will converge at the season finals of the BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals. The competition has travelled across 12 nations in 12 months to reach its finale here in Dubai where 64 elite players who will vie for the victory. The event will have a number of activities and family-friendly entertainment including outdoor and picnic areas. There will be a free transport services to and from the stadium for ticket holders.

Racing At Meydan 2014 – 2015 (Race 4)

Venue: Meydan Racecourse (free admission)
Start: 6.45pm
Meydan Racecourse will be offering an exciting array of races starting from November the 6th, 2014 all the way through to the 14th of February with Racing at Meydan. These races are considered a stepping stone into the premiere leagues such as the Dubai World Cup Carnival and ultimately the Dubai World Cup. It also gives local and regional talents a chance to show off their potential.

Al Ghazal Sand Golf Series (Grand Final)

Venue: Al Ghazal Golf Club

The Al Ghazal Sand Golf Series is a new initiative for 2014 and announces the club’s return to championship competition.  The series welcomes all amateurs with a valid EGF handicap and is played in a pairs betterball stableford format.

Friday 19 December
We Run DXB – Nike

Venue: Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai
Start: 7.30am
Nike will be running a 10k challenge for beginner, intermediate and advanced level runners this December in Dubai. The location will be around the Burj Khalifa at Downtown Dubai and will make use of the Nike+ app available on all mobile platforms. Set up an account with the app, register and turn up for a fun and challenging run in a central location here in Dubai.
