Amid the chaos at MetLife Stadium, Cam Newton calmly delivered the latest chapter of his MVP campaign to keep the Carolina Panthers flawless this season.

After Carolina blew a 35-7 lead and allowed the New York Giants to tie the score with less than two minutes left, Newton led a 49-yard drive in the final 1:46 to set up the game-winning field goal by Graham Gano from 43 yards out.

The 38-35 result coincidentally matched the same score of the New England Patriots’ Week 17 victory over the Giants in 2008 to cap their undefeated season and moves the Panthers one step closer to doing the same at 14-0.

Newton was once again unstoppable with 340 passing yards and five touchdowns to go with 100 yards amassed on the ground.

Over the past five games, the Carolina quarterback has thrown 19 touchdowns to just one interception and already has a career-high 33 for the season.

Looking forward, only two opponents remain in the Panthers’ way of finishing unbeaten – the NFC South’s Atlanta Falcons (7-7) in Week 16 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-8) to wrap up the regular season.

Although Carolina have already clinched the division and a bye, there’s plenty left to play for.

“These last two games are division opponents, and we’ll be in a hostile environment in Atlanta and we’ve got a tricky week with Christmas,” Newton said.

“We just have to find a way to keep moving ahead and make sure we stay on the side of the pendulum.”
