An MVP-defining 62-foot shot from Golden State’s golden boy Steph Curry saw the Warriors charge past Memphis and into Western Conference finals yesterday.

The Houston Rockets or LA Clippers, who play to a conclusion tonight in Game 7, await the red-hot Curry and co in the finals.

Curry scored 32 points, 11 more than any other player on the court, as Golden State sealed a 4-2 series win – but it was the 27-year-old’s mesmeric shot to close out the third quarter that will live long in the memory.

The home-court Grizzlies had clawed their way back into the game in the third, trailing by just a point at one stage, but Curry’s Herculean effort knocked the wind out of them.

The shot, from near his own three-point stripe as time ticked down, was spontaneous but it was no surprise to see the best player in the NBA this season sink it.

Jeff Green rushed downcourt attempting to cut the Golden State lead to three when he was blocked. Curry scooped the loose ball and threw a chest-shot in the opposite direction; he nailed it.

“In mid-air I said ‘I think it’s going in’,” said coach Steve Kerr.

“He loves the big moments. He loves the playoffs. He loves being depended on to take and make big shots. He’s the MVP for a reason.”

For Memphis, the city with such a rich music history, Curry had the FedEx Forum dancing to his tune.

The Warriors move on, to a place where they haven’t been in 39 years, four wins from the NBA Finals.
