Floyd Mayweather insists he is in the best shape of his life ahead of Saturday night’s welterweight unification bout with Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather labelled his training camp “remarkable” as the two combatants took centre stage at a highly respectful final press conference at the MGM Grand last night. 

Neither fighter chose to speak about the other in their short statements, with Pacquiao concentrating on his journey in life to get this far and Mayweather adopting a strictly business approach. 

But the American, unbeaten in 47 fights, was steadfast in his belief he is primed to chalk up win No48.

“My training camp has been remarkable,” he said. “My dad (Floyd Senior) has done a tremendous job, along with my Uncle Roger and there has been a tremendous chemistry between them and the rest of my team.

“But now it’s time to fight,” he added. “You guys came to see excitement and a great event and I believe that both competitors bring excitement to the table.

“This is the biggest fight in boxing history and I am a part of it, I am blessed. I feel good, I feel strong and will see you guys on Saturday night.”

Pacquiao, who starts the fight as a firm outsider said his underdog status has made him more determined to succeed where all others have failed. “I might be the underdog but that motivates me more,” he said.

“It gives me more encouragement to try hard – I love to be an underdog.

Asked if he was the man to take Mayweather’s famed ‘0’, he replied simply: “The lord my god will deliver him into my hands.”

Earlier in the day, Mayweather had been far less respectful when he mocked Pacquiao’s cut of what is nailed on to be the richest fight in boxing history.

Some $300 million dollars is expected to be generated with Mayweather taking home a 60 per cent cut and his Filipino opponent the remainder.

“Financially, he hasn’t been treated right for this fight. And [this fight] is all about the money,” said Mayweather.

The 38-year-old also repeated his desire to retire after two more fights.

A win on Saturday and another in September would leave him level with Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 unbeaten streak but he said: “Getting to 50 fights unbeaten might be special for you, but for me it’s not.”
