Played at Detroit’s Olympia Stadium, the Red Wings did most of the damage in the third and final period, in which eight goals were scored.

Syd Howe led the home team onslaught with a hat-trick, his three goals coming in the final eight minutes of the game.

The game started rather tentatively, with the Red Wings 2-0 up at the end of the first period. That lead increased to 7-0 with five goals in the second period before the floodgates really opened.
