Mark Hunt walked into the Octagon coolness personified and he walked off from his knockout of Frank Mir equally chilled.

The ‘Super Samoan’ scored a stunning first-round KO of former two-time heavyweight champ Mir at UFC Fight Night 85 in Brisbane, Australia Sunday morning.

Despite a tentative feeling out process from both men, the 41-year-old struck with a death-touch single right hand to end the contest with one minute and 59 seconds remaining in the opening stanza.

And the New Zealander knew it was all over, despite some corners of the MMA world questioning a premature end.

“Frank, he was still in the dark lands when I saw him [after landing the punch],” Hunt said of his walk-off KO. “His face was still… he wasn’t there, so I just left it. He wasn’t there.”

He added: “I thought about shooting through with an uppercut but he’s a bit slower now, so I thought I’d shoot through the straight right.  He’s accomplished a lot. I’ve got a lot of respect for him and his skillset. There’s always a winner and a loser. It’s just work.”

The No9-ranked powerhouse is sure to be on the fringes of the top five and he hopes to get the opportunity to avenge his losses against either Stipe Miocic (No2), Junior Dos Santos (No5) or ideally champion Fabricio Werdum.

“I’d like to rematch any of the top guys, JDS (Dos Santos), Stipe or Werdum,” Hunt said. “I’ve never lost a rematch, so I’d love to do that. I can party anywhere.”

As for Mir, at 36, his dreams of equalling a record by winning the heavyweight crown three times appear in tatters.
