The GO Sport 2XU Triathlon series returns this Friday, and if you fancy being involved in one of the popular and fastest-growing sports in the UAE, then there’s still time to register before Thursday’s deadline.

The first race, which was sanctioned by Dubai Sports Council, attracted over 500 people as Christian Henn and Svetlana Blazevic triumphed in the Olympic distance.

And so far, this weekend’s race looks set to attract big numbers with over 250 triathletes set to make their way to Dubai’s Mamzar Beach.

The UAE are no strangers to holding triathlon events with many community races held throughout the year.

And given its popularity in the country, the multi-discipline sport which features swimming, cycling and running, triathlons continue to attract athletes of different ages and abilities.

And the GO Sport 2XU Triathlon is no different. Organisers Super Sports Events have set three different distances: Sprint, Super Sprint and Olympic across various age groups to ensure there is something for everyone.

“The Junior and Super Sprint race is predominantly for children under the age of 18 and for novices wanting to try the sport before committing to the longer distances,” explained race organiser Warren Van Der Merwe.

“For children under 12-years will swim 200m, cycle for 8km and then do a 2.5km run. For triathletes aged 13 and over, will do the same cycle and run distance but will swim 375m instead.”

He added: “The Sprint category involves a 750m swim, a 24km cycle ride followed by a 5km run while the Olympic distance will be double the distance with age group categories ranging from 18 years and under to 50 plus.

The race can also be competed as relays, and as in previous editions, a family of four or more will receive a 50 per cent discount on their total entry fee. And Van Der Merwe insists it’s one not to be missed.

He added: “Our first one of the season was a huge success and many people have already confirmed their participation.

“This triathlon is open for everyone and you don’t need to have much experience to do this fun sport. It will be a new challenge but a fun and enjoyable challenge.

“We have children as young as eight-years-old taking part, so it really is a sport that is for everyone.

"The general feedback has been positive because it’s a great community event, which is well organised. Anyone who attends on Friday will see that there will be a lot of people smiling when the race finishes.”
