The Jebel Ali Golf Resort is the venue for the second race of the season and with registration closing on Wednesday, there’s still time to see for yourself why it’s such a highly-rated event.

The popularity of the multi-sport discipline is booming in the UAE with scores of community events attracting huge numbers and the JLL Triathlon is no different.

“Every race of this series in previous years has seen a lot of people take part which is very encouraging,” said Paul Venn of Race ME, organisers of the event.

“The first race of the series was very good with more than 250 people competing and given it’s the start of the new year, we expect even more entries this time round.”

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced athlete, you can take part, with different categories on offer to choose from.

Their Super Sprint distance – 375m swim, 10km cycle followed by a 2.5km run to the finish line – is ideal for newcomers and those with less experience.

For those who want to test themselves further, then the Sprint category is there, which sees those distances doubled.

“The best thing about these kind of events is that we see a lot of first-timers every year and I expect this to be no different,” said Venn.

“A lot of people’s resolutions may be to do more exercise or do something different, and this is a good way of starting the year on a positive and healthy note.

Race two of the series is perfect for first timers looking to test their limits.

“The rules will still be the same but a good factor about this season is that people will be able to track their times at the start and end of each transition through our Live Timing system.”

Entry varies between Dh350 to Dh400 depending on the category and Venn insists it’s an opportunity not to be missed.

“I think it’s without question, the best race for a first-timer as it’s a very easy course,” he said.

“The swim is as perfect as you would find for any triathlon in the UAE and the distances are manageable, plus you have that tremendous community feel.

“There is a full five-star breakfast and all the people sit together which adds to that community feeling.”
