Participants in Yas Marina Circuit’s beginner-friendly triathlon can reach February’s starting line in top shape thanks to daily training sessions.

A seven-days-a-week training schedule has been set up to give athletes the best possible preparation for TriYAS by Daman’s ActiveLife.

Held at Yas Marina Circuit on February 17, 2017, the beginner-friendly triathlon features a combined swim, cycle and run of varying distances for everyone from pro athletes to kids and first-time triathletes.

This year’s course will take place exclusively on the F1 track and within Yas Marina. The swim will consist of one or two laps of the 750m course surrounded by the cheers of spectators in the Yas Marina, followed by transitions in the F1 Pit Lane.

The cycling element will consist of either four or seven laps of the 5.55km super-fast, iconic Circuit, with the run section consisting of one or two laps of the F1® track and Yas Marina Promenade.

A sell out each year and capped in 2017 at 1,500 participants will get every opportunity to hone their fitness and technique, as well as practice the all-important transition between disciplines, during a packed schedule of training sessions that starts now.

Last year’s TriYas winner Reudi Wild.

Regular sessions include cycling and running at Yas Marina Circuit, swimming and running at NYU Abu Dhabi courtesy of Daman’s ActiveLife, cycling at the Al Wathba purpose-built track, and running at Yas Island and Khalifa City.

Registration for the region’s only twilight triathlon is already in full swing, with hundreds taking advantage of the Early Bird, up to 25 per cent, discount rate that runs until December 31.

There are also discounts for triathlon club members and ITU participants, while kids will be refunded their entire registration fee provided they take part.

The training week starts on Sundays with StartYAS by Daman’s ActiveLife from 6-10pm at Yas Marina Circuit.

On Monday mornings, the focus shifts to NYU Abu Dhabi where the university’s 50m Olympic-size pool is available for swimmers from 7-8am and the track opens to runners from 7-10am. Both facilities are provided courtesy of Daman’s ActiveLife.

Tuesdays are back to Yas Marina Circuit for the cycling and running of TrainYAS by Daman’s ActiveLife, while Wednesdays are the female-only GoYAS by Daman’s ActiveLife from 6-9pm.

Swimmers go all out at Yas Marina.

Thursday mornings are a time for triathletes to lace up their running shoes for 5-6.15am sessions organised by Abu Dhabi Striders in Khalifa A.

Meanwhile, Fridays are all about getting in the saddle and putting in the kilometres on the bike at the Al Wathba purpose-built cycle track.

Saturdays are the busiest days of all with Abu Dhabi Striders holding running intervals from the Yas Plaza hotels at 5.30-7.30am, swim sessions at NYU Abu Dhabi from 8-9am and 12-1pm, and track running at NYU Abu Dhabi from 8-10am.

Participants will also be able take advantage of a seven-week first timer training programme provided by Haddins Fitness. In addition, TriYAS will be posting online training programmes, triathlon club features & training tips video content.

TriYAS by Daman’s ActiveLife includes two distances for adults: the Olympic category, with a 1,500-metre swim, 40-kilometre bike race and 10-kilometre run and the shorter Sprint category, involving a 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike course and 5-kilometre run.

TriYAS will include KidsTRI for children to test themselves over a 200-metre swim, nine-kilometre cycle and a 1.5 or 2.5-kilometre run. The triathlon also includes a female-only category and a star-studded pro field.

Participants are encouraged to share their own personal stories of their training experiences across social media, using the hashtag ‘#TriYAS’ in a bid to spur others on.
