As part of Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) drive in promoting the women’s game, Maxtalent Global Sports held their Development Programme, with coaches passing their knowledge to more than 200 school girls.

The eight-week initiative which concluded earlier this month, att-racted 250 children, aged between 10 and 14-years-old from 14 schools in Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai.

With the emphasis of introducing the game to the girls as well as gaining valuable skills that will help them in everyday life, the children took part in training sessions as well as fun eight-over matches twice a week.

They were able to pit themselves against their peers in the Cricket Festival at Dubai’s ICC Academy where Dubai Winchester were crowned champions.

It was no surprise the initiative was well-received by pupils and coaches, and Maxtalent head coach Sudhakar Shetty, insists this programme will be here to stay.

He said: “For the past nine years, we have been developing cricket among schools and universities and  this is the start of a new chapter for us.

“This is here to stay and it was quite hard for the girls but they stuck to it and gained a lot of new skills.”

He added: “I have no doubt that this can help more girls take up cricket in the UAE.”
