Victoria International School of Sharjah (VISS) students enjoyed a glimpse of the power and brilliance of Samoa national team, who trained at the facilities prior to the Dubai Rugby Sevens.

Samoa crashed out to New Zealand in the quarter-finals in Dubai on Saturday, but they certainly had the best preparation in a visit the pupils will not want to forget any time soon.

Damian McGrath’s men kicked off their training with the ‘Siva Tau Samoa’ war dance in front of excited youths, who cheered on the players throughout their two-hour session.

The students also had the opportunity to meet the Samoans, who held a question and answer session.

It’s not the first time Samoa has visited the school, using the complex to train ahead of the Dubai event in previous years. And Dean Pyrah, principal of VISS, was thrilled to welcome them again.

“This visit was an exciting opportunity for our students,” he said. “We are proud that the Samoan sevens team continues to train at our facilities.

“These sessions highlight the true meaning of hard work and perseverance. It also falls in line with our philosophy of a healthy mind and a healthy body.”

McGrath, added: “It was great to have the children spurring us on and hopefully they were inspired by watching the players train.”
