There is no excuse for children in the UAE to be bored at home this summer when school finishes. Elite Sports are offering multi-sport holiday camps to give kids the opportunity to participate in and learn the key skills in a variety of sports such as: football, swimming, basketball, cricket, dodgeball and hockey.

The popular camps have been running for the past two years with over 500 children attending last summer.

Elite Sports specialise in football coaching and have taken their Academy squads on tours to places like the United Kingdom to play Manchester City and Newcastle. The summer camps are a whole new ball game though and could open up your child's perspective of sport.

The director of Elite Sports, Steve Whittaker, believes the summer camps are an ideal way to promote fitness and the importance of a healthy lifestyle, which is a concern in the UAE. "We are passionate about there being an outlet for children to continue to stay fit and healthy throughout the hot summer months," Whittaker told Sport360.

"The Elite summer camps promote healthy lifestyles through the different sports activities on offer during the week, and even promote healthy eating habits during break and lunch time, rewarding the healthiest eaters from the week."

The camps focus on fun through learning, and promote the need for the children to remain fit and healthy, whilst stimulating their minds, in a controlled, enthusiastic, positive environment, under the tutelage of experienced, qualified coaches.

The purpose of the camps is to expose your child to as many different sports as possible, in order for them to develop their technical ability whilst also improving their team play, attitude and even socialising skills. Whittaker added: "We develop the children's social and leadership skills during the camp through specially designed activities to promote communication and bargaining skills.

"The children make friendships with children from different schools and often the relationships continue past the summer.

Children participate and improve in different sports throughout the week as they build-up to the the final day – one that the kids cherish the most – wacky hair day and mini Olympics. Elite FC's director explains the format of this fun finale: "The children take part in a mini Olympics which tests their skills in different disciplines as well as participating in the themed wacky hair day, in which the children dress up, paint their faces and colour their hair to look like their favourite sporting or fictitious heroes!

"The day is then completed with medals and prizes for the children with the best attitude as well as the hardest working/most improved player.
