Former NBA star and Championship winner, two-time NBA Three-point shootout victor and former FIBA World Champion Peja Stojakovic, who lands in the UAE next month, is excited to see the talent on display when he runs the rule over players at Dubai Sports World.

The 38-year-old small forward will conduct master classes alongside Minnesota Timberwolves’ Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio from 22-28 August as part of BasicBall’s six-day training camp at the World Trade Centre.

According to organisers, Stojakovic, who won the 2011 NBA crown with the Dallas Mavericks, will be ‘working with players on everything from basic dribbling and passing, to personal shooting training.’

“I know basketball is very popular in the UAE so I’m looking forward to seeing what talent is out there at Dubai Sports World,” said Stojakovic ahead of the trip.

“I hold the game very close to my heart and I hope I can pass on some of the skills and knowledge I learnt during my career.”

BasicBall Academy founder and former award-winning European basketball player Zoran Savic is delighted to bring the NBA stars to the UAE in a bid to improve the standard of basketball in the country.

“It’s fantastic that we are able to welcome such talented players to the academy in Dubai,” said Savic.

“We pride ourselves on being able to give our members the best training and Dubai Sports World is the perfect venue for us. The atmosphere is electric and we’re expecting a real buzz next month.”

Sessions will run from 8am-12pm each day throughout the course, with those signed up split into four age groups.

Limited spaces are still available, with prospective players encouraged to email info@basicball.com for more information and registration.
