Wyndi Baron scored 23 points, 10 of them in the first 10 minutes of the game, to lead Luminous to an overwhelming 89-76 victory in McFearin Basketball Association Season 1.

Baron got plenty of help from Joan Santos, who finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Winston Lopez and Jigs David added 10 markers each. Luminous got off to a strong start, opening the game with a 21-2 run and leading by as much as 27 points, 40-13, at the end of the first quarter.

“Our strategy was to go all out at the start of the game,” said Baron, who is also the team manager of Luminous. “We immediately stepped on the gas and startled them with our running game.”

Kyemates, however, outscored Luminous in the second quarter, 21-8, to cut the deficit to 14, 48-34, at the turn. Then the trio of Laurilla, who top-scored with 32 points, John Paul Novelo and Joseph Pinggoy further cut down the deficit to a single digit, 61-52, going into the final period.

But Luminous had another run in them and started the fourth quarter with a 13-4 rally to establish a comfortable 18-point margin. They then put together a masterful finish and cruised to their second straight win.

Elsewhere, Bicol Express-Filinvest registered their third straight victory with a 96-80 trashing of St. Mary’s Angels. Ritchell Sarabia top-scored with 21 points, followed by Jeff Manjares with 13 while Marlon Nogar, Villarosa, Glenn Monreal and Balneg finished with 10 markers each.

In other matches, Cagers dominated DXB Wizards 77-69 while Zuma won over 3Sisters via default.
