Panthers registered a come-from-behind 46-42 extra time win over Ravens in the Chery-Al Habtoor Motors Women’s Basketball Cup yesterday.

Ravens had a five-game winning streak and were poised to clinch their sixth victory with an 11-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter but managed just a point for the rest of the game due to the relentless defence enforced by Panthers.

“All the credit goes to the players, they played their hearts out,” Panthers coach Peter Nalo told Sport360°.

Panthers’ Kenyan centre Rose Ouma and Filipino playmaker Wacky Lucio initiated a 10-0 run to put Panthers behind by only one point, 41-40, at the start of the fourth quarter.

For the Ravens, their only point came from a split free throw by Batang Banawa which gave them a two-point margin at 42-40.

But Lucio quickly replied with a basket and tied the scores at 42-all with 32 seconds left. The ball went back to Ravens but Banawa was called for a travelling violation.

Panthers called for a time-out and set a play for Ouma to take the final shot. She missed, but Lucio got the rebound and also missed her put back which sent the game into extra time.

Lucio and Ouma continued their dominance in the extra period to give Panthers their fifth win in six games.

In another game, Dnata beat Matrix 41-35, with German centre Anika Bauermeister and Japanese shooting guard Saori Umebayashi scored a triple each to ignite a last quarter surge for Dnata and earn their first win from six games.
