Steve Waugh was playing his final Ashes Test at his home ground in Sydney and started off in brilliant fashion, when he matched Don Bradman’s mark of 29 centuries with a cracking first-innings 102.

It was a breezy knock, with him getting to his 100 in just 130 balls as Australia took a one-run lead.

However, Michael Vaughan had other ideas and one of his finest innings – making 183 and guiding England to a fantastic total of 452.

Andy Caddick took seven wickets, including the prized one of Waugh for six, as Australia were bowled out for 226 and lost by 225 runs. That prevented an Australian clean sweep as they won the series 4-1.

1920: The Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $100,000, twice the amount of any previous player transaction.

1978: India beat Australia for the first time on Australian soil beating them by 222 runs in Melbourne. Leg spinner Chandrashekhar took 6-52 in second innings.

1993: The greatest comeback in the history of NFL was scripted when Buffalo Bills fought back from 32 points down in third quarter (35-3), beat Houston Oilers 41-38.
