The clash between Floyd Patterson and Archie Moore for the vacant world heavyweight title took place on this day back in 1956 at the Chicago Stadium.

Patterson had won the Olympic gold four years back and was brimming with confidence as he took on former light heavyweight champion Moore.

The match in itself was a fairly one-sided affair as Patterson defeated Moore by a knockout in five rounds to became the youngest world heavyweight champion in history at the age of 21 years, 10 months, three weeks and five days.

His record stood for 30 years before it was broken by Mike Tyson. Patterson was also the first Olympic gold medallist to win a professional heavyweight title.
