Captain Paul McGinley led his European team to a record-equalling third Ryder Cup victory in a row with a comprehensive five-point win against the Americans at Gleneagles in Scotland.

It was the 40th Ryder Cup and gave Europe their 11th win in 18 appearances since their debut in 1979.

Europe led 5-3 after Friday’s fourballs and foursomes, extending that lead on the second day to 10-6.

On the final day’s singles matches, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer and Sergio García all won, Welshman Jamie Donaldson’s 5&3 victory against Keegan Bradley sealing victory for the home side.
