Paul Breitner is regarded as one of Germany's greatest footballers, earning 48 caps for Die Mannschaft between 1971-82.

Breitner scored in the 1974 World Cup final as West Germany came from behind to beat the Netherlands 2-1 at Munich’s Olympiastadion.

Breitner, 54 today, also scored in the 1982 final, a consolation as they lost 3-1 to Italy, but his feat means he is one of only four players to score in multiple finals, alongside Pele, Vavá and Zinédine Zidane. He also won won the European Championships with West Germany in 1972.

Breitner, a goal-scoring left-back, enjoyed a stunning club career with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

He scored more than 100 goals in almost 400 career games, winning Munich’s first ever European Cup in 1974 and won five Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, as well as two La Liga titles and two Copa del Reys.

1989: Ben Youngs, Leicester Tigers scrum-half who has 48 caps and nine tries for England since 2010 debut (26).
