Taking place at Le Meridien, Mina Seyahi in Dubai, the leagues, to begin from March 9, are open to beginners and experienced players. Monday and Wednesday leagues (Wild Sets II) are for recreational and social level.

And the Tuesday (Spike it like it’s Hot II) league is aimed for players who want to play competitive games.

Any team who registers before Saturday (February 28) will pay the Dh3,150 entry fee otherwise they will be charged Dh3,500.

As the largest sports and social club in the UAE, beach volleyball is one of Duplays’ popular and fast-growing leagues.

“Beach volleyball isn’t one of those sports that is played widely around the world,” said Gareth Curtis, UAE operations manager of Duplays. “But in the UAE, there is warm and pleasant weather in most months of the year and so it’s a big advantage.

“When people do come to the UAE, they can play these sports outdoors in a fun and vibrant atmosphere location.”

He added: “These leagues have been hugely popular for us because plenty of players of different abilities attend.

“We want to get as many people playing sport in the UAE and we thought it would be best if there were leagues for beginners and for those who want to play competitively.

“It’s a been a great success so far. There’s a lot of people getting involved, and when they get involved, they come back for the next leagues because they love the concept of the leagues so much.

“The matches are played in a great venue which is known for a great atmosphere and friendly vibe.”

Matches will take place from 19:00 to 22:00 with the last round of matches from April 27.

Teams will play three matches per night.

A minimum of six players, men or women, can form a team, while individuals will be allocated to a side.

Curtis says it’s not an opportunity to be missed.

He said: “It’s a just fun sport to get involved in.

“Out of all the leagues that Duplays run, it’s one of the most popular social sports and one that has a fun atmosphere.

“For people from non-volleyball backgrounds, it’s a chance to give it a go for the first time and am sure they won’t regret it.”
