The Fazza Championship for Shooting kicked into high gear on its second and third days as the tournament witnessed close competition among participants in all categories.

– #Quiz360: WIN a six-month Target Gym membership

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai , each participant had to shoot six targets, including two upper targets and four lower targets – evenly divided to the right and left side of the shooting bay. Participants had to use the traditional Saktoun rifle and are not allowed to use any other gun.

"This year's championship has seen overwhelming participation in all categories, especially by women, who have turned out in record numbers to compete in this tournament which brings together the best shooting talents in all age groups,” Souad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Fazza Championships, said.

Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre, organisers of the Championship, provided all necessary equipment and amenities to facilitate training before the event started – including ammunition, targets and the assistance of professional trainers.

"There are a total of 80 points to be won by each participant: points calculated on targets start from 10 points down to one point. Shooting on the ‘X’ mark in the middle of the target and its surrounding circle gets awarded 10 points,” said Rashid Mohammed Al Kalbani, Fazza Shooting Field Supervisor.

The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre’s efforts to develop and encourage the shooting sport are aimed at promoting awareness of national heritage and culture among the youth, and providing opportunities for Emirati talents to develop their skills and qualify for international tournaments.
