Australia defeated Greece 84-76 to conclude the round of 16 in the FIBA U17 World Championship at Al Shabab Arena last night.

The Boomers held the lead for the majority of the game, building it up to 14 points at one junction.

Greece fought back and closed the deficit down the stretch in the fourth quarter and were at times one possession away from tying the game, but couldn’t get over the hump.

Australia centre Isaac Humphries said: “I honestly think we haven’t shown anything yet. I think we can do so much better and that’s scary. We’re coming along and every game we’re getting better.”

Meanwhile, the rest of the day saw its share of blowouts and close contests.

The US continued their dominance with a 122-38 rout of Japan to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.

Their upcoming opponent, China, had an impressive 79-67 victory against Italy to earn their second win of the tournament.

Another North American country also punched its ticket to the final eight as Canada blew the doors off Angola 106-59.

Canada now match-up in the quarters with Serbia, who handed UAE their fourth-straight loss in a 116-31 result.

Spain rebounded from a loss in the final game of group play to edge Argentina 64-57.

The Spaniards now meet France, who knocked off the Philippines with an 86-57 win.
