It was on this day in 2014, when Pakistan – having been set a target of 302 by Sri Lanka – chased it down in 57.3 overs.

A run-rate of 5.25 throughout, thanks to fantastic knocks from Azhar Ali (103), Misbah -Ul-Haq (68*) and Sarfraz Ahmed (48), led them to a memorable win at Sharjah.

Sri Lanka’s ultra-defensive strategy and Pakistan’s desperation to win along with their attacking approach proved to be the difference as the men-in-green won by five wickets.

Pakistan’s intentions to chase the target down were clear, right from the start and Sri Lanka’s captain Angelo Mathews setting up defensive fields, in an attempt to stop boundaries, didn’t help.

Azhar Ali was awarded the Man of the Match for his century in the second innings.
