Rodil claims easy singles win at UAE Open

Jolywin Rodil, Orla Deegan, Amritha Kuttikrishnan and Irene Linde progressed into the next round of the Ladies Singles with relatively easy victories over their respective opponents at the 37th India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament at India Club in Dubai.

Rodil marched ahead with a straight-sets win over Simi Sundaram, overwhelming Sundaram 21-5, 21-3, while Deegan did not have to step on to the court after getting a walk over against Lavanya Goyal.

Kuttikrishnan also had it relatively easy against Donney Mathew, winning 21-6, 21-7.

And, while Linde made short work of Reeja Alexander 21-7 to clinch the first set, she was stretched a bit in the second before eventually prevailing 21-12 to progress to the next round.

Meanwhile, in the men’s masters singles, Sunil Kumar trounced Habib Malik 21-2, 21-7 to sail into the next round, while David Colquhoun prevailed over Anil Chamoli 21-7, 21-9.

In the masters singles for those over 40 years, Sarfraz Ahmed was stretched to three sets before beating Chacko Navin 21-15, 16-21, 21-12.
