The 37th edition of the India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament will commence from May 27 at India Club in Dubai.

Entry for the tournament is open until May 20 and can be done by visiting www.indiaclubdubai.com, officials told a press conference yesterday.

The tournament will be made up of 26 categories and along with boy’s and girl’s events for ages eight to 18, there will also be men’s and ladies’ events for Masters Doubles (40 years and above) and Super Veteran Doubles (55 years and above).

Each player can only take part in a maximum of three events, thereby offering a wider range of competitors a chance at success.

The tournament will adopt Badminton World Federation rules and regulations. The finals will be held on June 20 with trophies, gift hampers and cash prizes totalling over Dh50,000 handed out to winners.

India Club has also invited children from SNF Development Center and Dubai Autism Center, along with workers from Dulsco Labour Camp to participate in special pools. The initiative is part of India Club’s Corporate Social Responsibility activity and all special pool players will receive prizes and certificates.

Matches that occur on week days will start at 19:00, while Friday’s competitions will begin at 10:00.

The tournament made its debut in 1978 and has grown vastly in popularity since.

In last year’s edition, a record number of 533 matches were played with a total of 559 entries where players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Iran, Philippines, Hungary, Lithuania, Jordan and the United Kingdom competed.

For more information on the tournament, contact India Club at 04 337 1112 or email support@indiaclubdubai.com.
