European football sides always look like they hold the advantage in FIFA’s Club World Cup but this wasn’t to be the case in the final of the 2012 edition.

On this day, Corinthians of Brazil defeated Chelsea in the Club World Cup final with a 1-0 margin to take home the trophy.

Chelsea created chances but failed to take them as Corinthians’ Paolo Guerrero scored the only goal of the game.

The intensity went up in the dying stages when Gary Cahill was sent off and eventually the game finished in Corinthians’ favour.

Their 30,000 supporters at Yokohama went wild and Rafa Benitez’ chance of winning his first trophy with Chelsea was shattered.
