Happy Birthday: December 16 – Sir Jack Hobbs, Trevor Immelman, Joel Garner

One of England cricket’s all-time greats, Sir Jack Hobbs would have turned 134 today. An absolute legend of the game, Hobbs is known for his extraordinary first-class record that may never be surpassed.

Spanning three decades, Hobbs’ first-class career saw him score 61,760 runs, most of which coming for Surrey and included 199 hundreds and 273 fifties.

A sensational right-hand batsman, Hobbs went down in history as one of the finest openers the game has seen.

“The Master” as he was popularly known ended with 5,410 runs in 61 Tests for England with 15 centuries and 28 fifties.

At 46 years, he is still the oldest man to score a Test century.

1952: Francesco Graziani (64), Former Italian footballer, was part of World-cup winning team in 1984. Later turned manager.
