Bruce Grobbelaar – the flamboyant Zimbabwean, spent 14 years at Anfield – making well over 600 appearances.

He wasn’t short of silverware during his time on Merseyside – winning six first division titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups and the European Cup in 1984.

Grobbelaar, who turns 59, was known for his cat-like athleticism between the sticks and confidence when facing penalty-takers.

He is currently a goalkeeping coach with Ottawa Fury FC.

Here’s who else is celebrating:

1966: Niall Quinn – former Arsenal, Manchester City and Republic of Ireland striker, who was also a player and chairman at Sunderland (50).

1971: Alan Stubbs – Rotherham manager and former player at Bolton, Celtic and Everton (45).

1972: Mark Schwarzer (soccer) – Leicester and former Australia goalkeeper (44).

1982: Paul Smith (boxing) – British two-time world title challenger and 2002 Commonwealth Games light-middleweight silver medallist (32).

1984: Morne Morkel – South Africa fast bowler (30).
