On this day last year Sergio Aguero entered the record books as he scored five goals in 20 minutes in Manchester City’s 6-1 Premier League win over Newcastle.

The Argentina international joined Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Jermaine Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov in scoring five times in a single game.

His first came in the 42nd minutes after he finished off a slick City move to head home from close range.

There was an element of fortune to his second after his shot was deflected in four minutes after the break.

His hat-trick goal was a sumptuous chip just a minute later before he curled an 18-yard effort into the bottom right for his fourth.

The fifth was a simple tap-in.

Other memorable events on this day:

1811: The first inter-county women’s cricket match took place – between Hampshire and Surrey.

1982: Scott Weiland runs Detroit marathon backwards in less than five hours.

2008: OJ Simpson found guilty of kidnapping and armed robbery.

2015: Hosts England were knocked out of the Rugby World Cup after losing 33-13 to Australia.
