The Oakland Athletics made baseball history 14 years ago today as they broke a 55-year-old American League record, winning their 20th consecutive game against the Kansas City Royals to break the 19-game mark set by the New York Yankees in 1947.

It came in amazing circumstances too as they opened up an 11-0 lead before letting the Royals back into it.

Their opponents incredibly fought back to 11-11 before pinch hitter Scott Hatteberg’s home run in the bottom of the ninth inning secured the historic triumph.

The A’s incredible 2002 season was the subject of the 2011 film ‘Moneyball’, starring Brad Pitt as general manager Billy Beane.
