The Canadian certainly enjoyed a rollercoaster ride during his ice hockey career, which included a 14-year stint in the NHL. Fleury was a fiery character, probably due to his small stature, and was often considered too small for the NHL.

Fleury, 48 today, was drafted by the Calgary Flames, however, in 1987 and played more than 1,000 games for the Flames, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. He won the 1989 Stanley Cup with the Flames and won a gold medal with Canada at the Winter Olympics in 2002.

He battled drug and alcohol addiction, successfully overcoming them, and off the ice has helped raise more than $1m for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada after being diagnosed in 1995.

He has also wrote a best-selling autobiography and has become a successful public speaker.

1954: Rick Honeycutt, American former MLB pitcher, won the 1989 World Series with the Oakland Athletics (62).

1958: Rosa Mota (below), Portuguese former marathon runner who won gold medal at 1988 Olympics in Seoul (58).

1987: Luke McLean, Australian-born rugby player who has earned 81 caps for Italy. Plays for Benetton Treviso (29).

1991: Kawhi Leonard, plays as a small forward for the San Antonio Spurs. An NBA champion in 2014 (25).
