Djokovic entered having already won the Australia Open to start the major season and later went on to also earn titles at Wimbledon and the US Open. But it was Wawrinka who reigned supreme on clay, keeping Djokovic from completing the career grand slam.

After dropping the first set, the Swiss responded with three straight set wins, utilising his powerful one-handed backhand to smack 59 winners, compared to 30 for Djokovic.

Wawrinka added the victory to his Australian Open triumph.
