On this day 25 years ago, St. Louis Blues star Hull helped create NHL history when he won the Hart Trophy, awarded to the league’s MVP each season.

The feat came 25 years after Hull’s Hall of Fame father, Bobby, had won his second Hart Trophy. They are the only father and son team to have claimed the award.

Right wing Hull scored 86 goals during the season, which still stands today as the third best tally in an NHL season, leading the Blues to the second best overall record.

Other memorable events on this day:

1946: The NBA was founded in New York as the Basketball Association of America (BAA).

1963: The NHL held its first amateur draft, with 21 players selected. Montreal chose first and selected Garry Monahan.

2015: Barcelona win a fifth European Cup with a 3-1 win against Juventus in the Champions League final in Berlin. Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Neymar scored the Blaugrana’s goals.
