EFC’s Under-16 squad was unbeaten through the tournament as they won the UAE FA League, a run that included an impressive 3-0 win against the UAE national team in the final.

That achievement becomes more creditable considering the squad, consisting of girls aged 11-15 from a mix of nationalities, was put together from scratch last September.

“Already the girls are proving to be one of the top U-16 teams in the UAE,” said team manager Jessica Prelle. “It has been amazing seeing the girls progress and constantly rise to challenges sometimes against girls who are five-six years older than them.

“We are now looking at creating an U14 in addition to the U16 squad. There are already 50 girls playing in EFCs Academy program.”

Meanwhile, the senior EFC ladies squad finished third in the UAE FA League, finishing as the best placed social team. Their season also included a brilliant 1-1 draw against the women’s pro club Abu Dhabi Country Club.

The team includes players from Germany, Canada, Zambia and Argentina aged 18-36.

“For some of us it is the first time playing together but everybody is working hard and they have done incredibly well,” added team captain Prelle.

“It’s an interesting experience with all of us stepping up from the seven-a-side game to the 11s format but all the players have done well.

“We strongly believe we can work towards a top two next season.”
