Al Wasl Club were winners of the volleyball competition of the third Arab Women Sports Tournament 2016 (AWST) after beating Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) 3-0 with scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-19.

It was sweet revenge for Al Wasl after they had lost 3-1 to SLC in the 2014 edition.

Bahraini outfit Al Muharraq Club won silver based on points collected throughout the tournament. SLC had to be content with bronze. Lebanon’s Al Qalamoon Club came fourth, followed by Lebanese Olympic in fifth place. Palestinian side Ebdaa Club finished last.

Jordan’s Orthodox Club advanced to the final round of the basketball competition after beating Algerian Olympic club 58-53 in the semi-final, despite leading 25- 23 in the first half of the match.

SLC also made it to the final round after securing a 68-66 win against Egyptian Sporting Club in an exciting encounter. Sporting Club were ahead by 30-28 at the half-way stage but the Sharjah outfit fought back to eke out a narrow victory.

In the group archery competitions, Egypt won the gold medal, while the UAE took silver and Morocco won bronze.

In the individual archery section, it was Egypt on top once again as Nada Mamdouh took home gold, Emirati Noura Al Awadhi bagging silver and another Egyptian – Aya Mamdouh – clinching bronze.

The third Arab Women Sports Tournament was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
