Godolphin have confirmed that Elite Army, successful in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot in June, will not be ready to run in the final British Classic, the Ladbrokes St Leger, at Doncaster on September 13.

Elite Army is one of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, owned Godolphin's most promising horses.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, has won three of his four races but will target a return to the track in October according to bin Suroor.

"We gave Elite Army a break after Royal Ascot. He is in full training and hopefully will be return to racing in October," bin Suroor told the official Godolphin website.

"We will look at a variety of races to give us plenty of options and the Cumberland Lodge (Group Three, Ascot, 12 furlongs, October 4) is one of them.

"I am happy with him but the St Leger is not on the agenda as he needs a bit more time." 

Elite Army won the 12-furlong Royal Ascot race on June 19 by three quarters of a length from Windshear, the pair clear.
